In June 2014, I will be joining Turia Pitt and a group of inspired individuals on a trek to the Great Wall of China to raise much-needed funds for Interplast.
While an adventure in China may seem like nothing out of the ordinary for those of you who know me, the woman behind it is anything but ordinary. I first read Turia Pitt's story on Lorna Jane's movenourishbelieve.com, a site devoted to inspiration through active living. And inspired, I was...by her strength, her sheer determination to not only live but live life to the fullest, and by her incredible positivity. In September 2011, Turia was trapped by fire while running an ultra marathon in the remote Kimberley region of Western Australia. She suffered horrific burns to 65% of her body and spent five months in hospital.
Though it has been a long and arduous road to recovery, Turia considers herself lucky to be alive and to have received such excellent medical care when so many others around the world are not as fortunate. She is passionate in her support for Interplast, a charity that sends fully qualified Australian and New Zealand volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and allied health professionals to the Asia Pacific region to provide free surgical treatment for patients living with a treatable disability.
Turia is such an inspiration that I could not pass up the opportunity to join her on this incredible adventure for a worthy cause, even from half a world away. One person can make a difference! Our goal as a team is to raise $100,000. You can help support this cause by clicking "Donate Now" to make a secure online donation. Feel free to share this page or comment below!
Thank you so much for your support!
