Turia's Great Wall Challenge
Story
Dear Colleagues, Friends and Family,
I have recently had the pleasure of meeting and working with Turia Pitt. Turia is one of the most extraordinary people I have met. Despite facing circumstances that many would not have survived, Turia's enthusiasm, positivity, determination, humour and courage is second to none. Her story has had a profound impact and reminded me of those aspects of life most precious and important.
Turia was trapped by a grass-fire in the Kimberlies during a 100-kilometre ultra marathon in 2011. She suffered sixty-five percent burns to her body and a huge loss of independence - which her surgeons helped her regain, operation after operation.
On June 1, 2014 I will be joining Turia Pitt and other inspirational women on a challenging fundraising journey - a 5 day trek across the Great Wall of China.
The purpose of this journey is to raise vital funds for INTERPLAST.
INTERPLAST sends fully qualified Australian and New Zealand volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to the Asia Pacific region to provide free surgical treatment for patients living with treatable disability. They treat patients who would otherwise not be able to afford access to such services. they also train local medical staff to perform these surgeries independently.
As an ambassador of INTERPLAST - Turia and friends are hoping to raise over $150,000 as a team which will send fifteen surgeons to developing countries to perform 450 life changing operations.
Please support me as I walk the Great Wall with Turia and other inspiring women to raise money for this wonderful charity. As my trip is funded, all money donated will go directly to supporting the work of INTERPLAST in the Asia-Pacific region.

Since 1983, we have delivered more than 880 programs across 25 countries, resulting in more than 750 surgical and allied health medical program activities that make a huge difference in the lives of some of the world’s poorest people.

- Supported more than 70 surgeons and nurses from developing countries to complete part of their training in Australia and New Zealand, including the sole current plastic surgeons in both Fiji and PNG.
