Trek for Interplast Fundraising Hub:
Turia's Interplast Great Wall Challenge

Hi, my name is Turia Pitt and in September 2011, I was badly burned during the Kimberley Ultramarathon. Sixty-five percent of my body was burned, several of my fingers were amputated and I was left with a badly scarred face.

I first heard about Interplast from my reconstructive surgeon, who volunteers annually by providing free surgical treatment and training overseas. And I thought, "I'd like to do something to help burn survivors too."

That's why, in June 2014, I will be walking the Great Wall of China to raise money for Interplast. I hope you'll join me! All the money we raise will go towards the work of this incredible organisation, and help people all over the Asia Pacific Region to rebuild their lives.

What will my impact be?

The money you raise on 'Turia's Interplast Great Wall Challenge' will go directly to supporting Interplast's work in the Asia Pacific region.

Interplast sends fully qualified Australian and New Zealand volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to the Asia Pacific region to provide free surgical treatment for patients living with a treatable disability. They treat patients who would otherwise not be able to afford access to such services. They also train local medical staff to perform these surgeries independently.

Walk in the footsteps of warriors, poets and emperors as you explore China's Great Wall – one of the wonders of the modern world.

Navigate remote and rarely visited sections of the Wall, stopping to decipher the ancient poems etched into the brickwork. Explore watchtowers, tombs and mazes, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.

Before and after your trek, spend time with a bunch of new friends in the vibrant city of Bejing, riding a bicycle or rickshaw through charming hutongs (laneways), dining on Peking duck and learning Tai Chi in the park.

  • Help Interplast change the lives of people all over the Asia Pacific region.
  • Trek through the otherworldly mountains and valleys surrounding the hidden, ruined parts of the Great Wall. In the more remote sections, you'll have the Wall to yourself, with not another visitor in sight.
  • Discover the spectacular Jinshalang watchtowers. Each of the 70 towers is built in a different architectural style, with poems and stories etched into their ancient brickwork.
  • Dine on Peking duck, explore the tiny hutongs (laneways) by bicycle or rickshaw, learn tai chi in the park, and experience the Forbidden City – all in the company of a great group of new friends!
